About the child protection register

What is the child protection register?

Every area in Scotland has a child protection register. It is a private list of children (kept by the Social Work Department) who may be at risk. The register is held on computer.

Who can get information from the child protection register?

The Social Work Department will only give information from the register to workers such as a family doctor, school nurse, police or teacher.

What is the purpose of the child protection register?

If your name is on the child protection register, workers who know this will understand you need extra help and protection. Once your name is on the register, workers who know you will work together to make sure you are safe and looked after properly. The tasks of each worker are written on a form called a child protection plan by the social worker. This will be agreed at a meeting called a child protection planning meeting.Workers will talk to you about the plan. If you are old enough to understand, you can read it.

If your name is on the register, you will know that workers understand your situation. They will be able to help you if you ask them.
